Many of you know that recently I have begun a somewhat ridiculously large renovation project. No, not by marrying Joshua Donaldson.
I like him just fine the way he is!

My Parents, Frank and Cecelia Ward

My parents recently gifted to me a family house up in Marshall, NC with the terms that I would fix it up. At first glance this seems like a no brainer, but as you may soon understand, it took me several months of deliberation to commit too.

Background: Marshall is about 30 minutes northwest of Asheville, on the French Broad River, sort of near Mars Hill. The house is on Roberts Hill Rd – and my maternal family name is Roberts. It’s basically the exact location where my ancestors came when they left the British Isles and settled with their culture and music in a place that looked like home. And we’re still up here!
The house was built in 1909. It’s an American Foursquare style with a hipped roof and four dormers. It’s nestled on a quiet mountain a short windy drive (or energetic walk) to quaint downtown Marshall. That’s all the good news.

Folks, this house is going to insure I keep my sense of humor, as Josh and I will be renovating it ourselves. It needs foundation work, new roof, new siding, new plumbing, electrical work, flooring work, drywall/plaster repair, two new bathrooms and a kitchen. That’s an abbreviated list. If there is interest I will continue to share the adventure.

Oh, and free stay to anyone who wants to come do hard labor!
