My great grandfather, William Henry Dittoe, was the lead engineer overseeing the installation of a drinking water treatment plant in the Mahoning Valley, Ohio. During the 1930’s this area was one of the most heavily industrialized in the country, and had a population to match. The water treatment plant was cutting edge and one of the first in the country. It is still in operation as the Meander Water Reservoir plant under the jurisdiction of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District in Youngstown, Ohio.
Here are photos from our visit to the plant on June 23, 2015. The care and artistry put into every detail was inspiring. Most of the mechanics of the plant are still in operation!
